Phonk Beat Maker
Phonk lives on three things: a saturated 808, a cowbell playing the hook and a clap that hits like a slap. The grid is preloaded with all three on the Trap kit; change the 808 note and the cowbell steps to make it yours.
Long distorted 808, tight hats, hard clap
808 bass & chords
A#m → G# → F# → G#
The 808 follows the chord root in each bar; set a step's offset to walk the bassline. Pads hold until the next chord hit. Stabs are short.
Click a step once for a hit, twice for an accent, three times to clear. Space plays/stops, T taps tempo, R makes a random beat.

How to make a phonk beat
- Set the tempo between 120 and 140 BPM.
- Kick and 808 on the same steps (1 and 11), with the Trap kit for distortion.
- Clap on 2 and 4 (steps 5 and 13).
- Cowbell on a 3-3-2 rhythm (steps 1, 4, 7, 9, 12, 15). In a DAW you would pitch it into a melody.
- Keep hats simple 8ths with the odd 16th double; the cowbell is the star.
Typical tempo: 120–140 BPM (drift phonk often 130+). Need to match a reference track? Find its tempo with tap tempo.
Drift phonk pairs a distorted 808 with a cowbell melody in a 3-3-2 rhythm and a clap on 2 and 4.
