Why more taps = a truer BPM
Every tap is a little early or late. Each bar below is one gap between taps; the line is the BPM estimate after that tap. Watch the line flatten as the errors cancel out.
Start tapping above and your intervals appear here.
Bars in red are more than 6% away from your average gap. A human tapper is typically within 10–30 ms per tap, so at 120 BPM (500 ms per beat) a single tap can be off by up to 6%. Averaged over 12 taps, that error drops to well under 1 BPM.

Questions
How does tap tempo work?
Each tap is timestamped. The BPM is 60,000 divided by the average gap between taps in milliseconds. BeatCraft averages your last 16 taps and starts over if you pause for more than 2 seconds.
How many times should I tap?
At least 8 taps. With 2–3 taps a single late tap can swing the result by 10 BPM or more; by 8–12 taps the random errors average out and the reading usually settles within 1 BPM.
Why does my result look half or double the real tempo?
If you tap on every other beat you get half the tempo; tap on every 8th note and you get double. Trap and drill are often felt at half-time. The half and double values are shown so you can pick the one that matches the song.
Is 120 BPM fast?
120 BPM is a medium, walking-pace tempo: two beats per second. It is the classic "moderato" range and a very common tempo for pop and dance music. Most listeners hear 140+ as fast and under 90 as slow.
How fast is 130 BPM?
130 BPM is just over two beats per second (one beat every 462 ms). That is upbeat: typical for techno, fast house and dance-pop. Trap at 130 feels slower because it is counted in half-time (65).
Is 110 BPM a fast tempo?
110 BPM is moderate: a relaxed but driving pace, common in funk, Afrobeats, and mid-tempo pop and rock.
Can I detect BPM automatically from a song?
This tool counts BPM from your taps, which works for any music you can hear, including live playing and songs in another app. Automatic detection needs the audio file; tapping 8–12 beats is usually just as accurate within 1 BPM.
What is a normal song BPM?
Most pop songs are 90–130 BPM. Hip hop sits around 85–100, house 120–128, trap and drill 130–150, and drum and bass 160–180.
