Warm, filtered, knocking drums for lo-fi and boom bap
808 bass & chords
Gm7 → C7 → Fmaj7 → Dm7
The 808 follows the chord root in each bar; set a step's offset to walk the bassline. Pads hold until the next chord hit. Stabs are short.
Click a step once for a hit, twice for an accent, three times to clear. Space plays/stops, T taps tempo, R makes a random beat.

How to make a beat in four moves
- Kick and snare first. Put a kick on step 1 and a snare on steps 5 and 13. That backbeat is the skeleton of almost every beat.
- Add hats for motion. Closed hats on every other step (8th notes) or every step (16ths) set the energy.
- Swing it. Push the swing slider to 15–30% to delay the off-beat 16ths. That is where groove comes from.
- Vary one thing. Switch to 32 steps and change the second bar: an extra kick, an open hat, a fill.
The full walk-through, with an interactive layering demo, is in how to make beats. Stuck for ideas? Load a groove from the drum pattern library, or type a vibe into the AI box above the fold.

Questions
Is BeatCraft really free?
Yes. There is no account, no trial and no watermark. The drum sounds are generated in your browser with the Web Audio API, so there is nothing to download or pay for.
Can I make a beat online without downloading anything?
Yes. Everything, including the sounds and the WAV/MP3 export, runs inside this web page. It works in current Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on desktop, Android and iPhone.
How do I save my beat?
Your current pattern auto-saves in this browser. Use "Saved beats" to keep named versions, "Copy share link" to send the exact beat to someone, or Download to get a WAV or MP3 file.
Can I use the beats commercially?
Yes. The sounds are synthesised by BeatCraft rather than sampled from other records, so the audio you export is yours to use in songs, videos and streams.
Is there a random beat generator?
Yes. Pick a style (hip hop, trap, house, lo-fi or drum & bass) under the grid and press Random beat. It follows genre rules, such as a kick on beat 1 and a proper backbeat, so every result is playable, and Undo brings back your previous beat.
Can I add 808s and chords?
Yes. Under the drum grid there is an 808 lane and a chord lane. Tap a step to add an 808 note, then use the semitone buttons and Glide to slide between notes. The decay slider sets how long it rings. For chords, pick a key and a progression, choose Stab (short) or Pad (sustained), and tap the steps where chords should hit. Every preset and the random generator fill both lanes in a style that suits the genre, and both are included in WAV/MP3 export and share links.
How do I make an 808 glide?
Add two 808 notes, select the second one, change its pitch and turn Glide on. The 808 then slides from the previous note into it, like the sliding basslines in trap, drill and phonk. A long decay (1.2–2 s) makes the slide more obvious.
What is a step sequencer?
A step sequencer divides a bar into equal steps (here 16 sixteenth notes, or 32 for two bars) and lets you switch each step on or off per instrument. It is how classic drum machines like the Roland TR-808 were programmed. There is a full explanation on the step sequencer page.
Which beat should I start with?
Tap one of the "Start from" buttons above the grid (boom bap, trap, house, lo-fi, drill, reggaeton or drum and bass). The pattern loads with a fitting kit and tempo and starts playing, so you can change it while you listen.
Why is there no sound on my phone?
Check that the ring/silent switch is off on iPhone and that media volume is up. Browsers only start audio after you tap something, so press Play or a step first.
