G#m · then E, B, F# on later loops

The 808 follows the chord root in each bar; set a step's offset to walk the bassline. Pads hold until the next chord hit. Stabs are short.

Click a step once for a hit, twice for an accent, three times to clear. Space plays/stops, T taps tempo, R makes a random beat.

How to program it

  1. Start with straight 16th hats.
  2. Delete hats on a few steps to make gaps (steps 2 and 4 here).
  3. Fill a run of consecutive 16ths before the clap for a roll; switch to 32 steps for finer rolls.
  4. Add one open hat on step 15 as a pickup into the next bar.

Questions

How do you make trap hi-hat rolls?

Fill several consecutive 16th (or 32nd) steps on the hat track, usually just before the clap or at the end of a bar, and vary their volume. Triplet rolls are also common in DAWs with triplet grids.
